Police officers were posted throughout downtown Yorktown on Friday morning, with an eye only for drivers using cell phones or driving while distracted.

According to Yorktown Police Chief Robert Noble, “business was brisk” on Friday, with his traffic safety offers keeping an eye out for distracted drivers.

In a video posted by the Alliance for Safe Kids, which offered police an assist with the detail, Noble pointed out detectives that were solely on the lookout for drivers on their cell phones, waiting to pull people over who violate the law.

Noble noted that it was especially important for parents to adhere to this law.

“Business has been brisk, you have to use a hands-free device when you’re driving,” he said. “There should be an emphasis if you have kids in your car, because kids repeat the behavior of the parent. So to all the parents out there, kids watch what you’re doing, so stay off your phone while you’re driving and be safe on the roads.”
