State Police troopers on patrol shortly after 9:30 p.m. Monday on I-87 in Greenburgh attempted to stop 18-year-old Bronx resident Sandy Tejada for speeding.
While a responding trooper was approaching Tejada’s vehicle to initiate the traffic stop, Tejada allegedly sped off, leading to a short chase that ended quickly after his vehicle became disabled. During that pursuit, Tejada allegedly intentionally caused damage to the car. He was also found to be in possession of marijuana.
There was also reportedly minor, undisclosed injuries reported as a result of the incident.
Tejada was arrested and charged with a felony count of second-degree criminal mischief, resisting arrest, unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle and reckless endangerment, all misdemeanors. He was also cited for possession of marijuana and several other vehicle and traffic violations.
Tejada is currently awaiting arraignment in the Town of Greenburgh Court, where he was due at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday. No bail information or return court date was available on Tuesday morning.
