PUTNAM COUNTY, N.Y. -- Putnam County police officers will be conducting party patrols during graduation season to prevent underage drinking and drunk driving in conjunction with Putnam Communities That Care Coalition.
Carmel Police Chief Michael Cazzari said police will be looking for intoxicated/impaired drivers as well as underage drink parties.
“High school graduation is a time for celebration, a special occasion not to be marred by tragedy," Cazzari.
Every town in Putnam County has passed legislation entitled Social Host Liability Law, which makes it illegal for anyone to host a party at their home and allow underage drinking to occur.
"How could one live with himself or herself afterward if a teen dies or is maimed as a result?" said Sheriff Donald Smith.
