Putnam Valley Woman Drove Drunk With 4-Year-Old In Backseat, Police Say

PUTNAM VALLEY, N.Y. -- A Putnam Valley woman was charged with drunk driving with her 4-year-old child in the backseat following a minor car accident in Yorktown Thursday night, Yorktown police said.

Melissa McLaughlin, 28, was arrested on Wood Street around 10:30 p.m. after Yorktown police received a call regarding an auto accident.

When officers arrived on scene, they found McLaughlin, driving a 2005 Saturn had hit a 2003 Chevrolet, causing minor injuries to the vehicles, police said. 

While conducting the investigation, officers could tell McLaughlin was intoxicated and transported her, along with her son who was a passenger, to police headquarters for testing, they said.

McLaughlin was charged with driving under the influence and aggravated driving under the influence with a child 15 years or younger in the vehicle. 

She was later released on her own recognizance and is schedule to appear in court on Oct. 4.
