Officers from the East Fishkill Police Department arrested 34-year-old James Durlacher, who was staying at a friend's home in Wappingers.
The Division of Criminal Justice Services has assigned Durlacher as a Level 2 threat, which means he is at "moderate risk of a repeat offense.” Durlacher had previously been registered as living in Hopewell Junction.
According to police, on Aug. 17, Durlacher reported that he had moved from East Fishkill to an address in Newburgh, which was later determined to be a false address. Durlacher failed to register or report his location to any police agency, leading to his arrest.
Detectives with the East Fishkill Police Department were given an assist from the Dutchess County Probation Office in locating Durlacher and arresting him.
Durlacher was charged with failing to register or report a change of address as a sex offender, a felony. He was arraigned in the Town of LaGrange Justice Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail or $100,000 bond. Durlacher is due back in East Fishkill Court on Sept. 26 to answer the charge.
