Shortly after 10:30 p.m. on Thursday night, police conducted a traffic stop of 21-year-old Rhinebeck resident Emanuel Balcazar-Sanchez, who was allegedly speeding on Annadale Road.

During the subsequent stop, police determined that Balcazar-Sanchez was operating his vehicle with a suspended drivers license, and further investigation revealed that his passenger, 18-year-old Rhinebeck resident Caleb Jacob was in possession of illegal prescription medication, $1,000 cash and a large amount of marijuana.

A second passenger, a 17-year-old girl from Saugerties whose name was not disclosed by police, was also found to be in possession of hallucinogenic mushrooms, LSD and marijuana.

Balcazar-Sanchez was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and released. Jacob has been charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal possession of marijuana, both misdemeanors. The 17-year-old was charged with felony counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana, a violation.

The two teenagers were arraigned in Red Hook Town Court and released on their own recognizance into the custody of family members. They are due back in court later this year.
