The crash occurred around 3 p.m. on Farm to Market Road when a van belonging to United Cerebral Palsy went off the right-hand side of the road and overturned down a very steep, snow-covered embankment, coming to rest against a tree, said Patterson Assistant Chief Joey Nickischer.

The driver had gotten out of the vehicle and was assisting the two passengers that were still inside when firefighters arrived, Nickischer said.

The Patterson Fire Department heavy rescue began the extrication and was assisted by the Putnam Lake Fire Department. One patient was removed through the rear door and the other patient was removed through the front windshield. Both were transported to Danbury Hospital, Nickischer added.

Due to the emergency, Farm to Market Road was closed for a short while with the assistance of the Putnam County Sheriff's Department and the Patterson Fire Department.

The crash is under investigation.
