Wanted Poughkeepsie Man Caught With Loaded Handgun After Police Chase

DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y. -- A 23-year-old Poughkeepsie man who was being sought as a parole absconder was arrested late Friday night by City of Poughkeepsie police officers and detectives after a chase in which he was found with a loaded handgun, police announced Saturday.

Police Department members spotted Corey Latimer on Catharine Street, and as they attempted to execute the arrest, Latimer fled, said City of Poughkeepsie PD captain.

After a short foot chase, Latimer was taken into custody and found to possess a loaded .32 caliber revolver, Wilson sad. Latimer was charged with criminal possession of a weapon (a Class C felony), unlawful possession of marijuana and as a parole absconder.

Latimer is being held in City of Poughkeepsie lockup pending his arraignment.

The officers and detectives involved in the arrest were working a Gun Involved Violence Elimination (GIVE) detail when Latimer was apprehended. GIVE is funded through the NYS Department of Criminal Justice Services. The funding is for strategies focused on the reduction of crimes involving the use of firearms.
