PUTNAM, N.Y. -- Instead of stopping to smell the roses, a Kent woman was charged with petit larceny on Friday after trying to steal items from a local florist without paying for them, according to Putnam County Sheriff Donald Smith.
Avery A. McCrae, 31, was charged with petit larceny shortly after 9 a.m. when she entered the Carmel Flower Shop, located in the Putnam Plaza on Route 6 in Carmel, said Capt.William McNamara.
According to police, McCrae allegedly placed several items of unpurchased merchandise into her handbag and attempted to leave the store. The shopkeeper reportedly stopped and detained her and called authorities, McNamara said.
Deputy Sheriff Maxwell Greisenger was dispatched to the call. Upon the shopkeeper’s complaint, he arrested McCrae. Following her arrest, she was processed and released on her own recognizance.
