Ali Boak defeated Andrew Falk in the race to represent the Democratic Party in the 40th State Senate District against incumbent Terrence Murphy.

Boak leads Falk 81 percent to 19 percent, 2,120 votes to 514 votes, according to unofficial results from the Westchester County Board of Elections with 64 percent of precincts reporting. In Putnam, Boak leads Falk 341 votes to 220 votes, 60 percent to 40 percent according to unofficial results from the Putnam County Board of Elections, with 90 percent of precincts reporting.

Boak is a former Pound Ridge councilwoman while Falk twice ran unsuccessfully for assemblyman. Boak vowed to clean up Albany if elected to the senate.

"I commend Andrew Falk on running a clean and spirited campaign," Balk said. "I look forward to victory in November. Voters are tired of the corruption and ethical scandals. They're tired of high taxes and empty promises, and they're ready for change.

Falk said he was proud of the campaign he ran.

"While we did not win the primary, I do not feel like I lost," Falk said. "I already wasn't a Senator. We used our campaign to fight for a future where our kids and grandkids will have a chance to have a middle class life."

The 40th Senate District includes Beekman and Pawling in Dutchess County, Carmel, Patterson and Southeast and Brewster in Putnam County, and Peekskill, Cortlandt, Lewisboro, Mount Pleasant, New Castle, North Salem, Pound Ridge, Somers, Yorktown, Mount Kisco, Briarcliff Manor, Buchanan, Croton-on-Hudson, Pleasantville and Sleepy Hollow in Westchester.
