I will be voting for Bob Langley for Sheriff because he has a better idea for managing the opioid crisis. By fighting addiction earlier, he plans to break the cycle of crime. The existing felony drug court in Putnam County has done good work in providing treatment programs for addicts. However, treatment options are only available in felony prosecutions. Often this involves people with advanced, hardened addictions. People being picked up for first offenses don't have that option. After their jail time they are turned out onto our streets, often homeless, jobless and with lots of new friends they met in jail. Bob Langley will work to expand misdemeanor level drug courts that will be able to provide therapy programs earlier in the course of the addiction where the chance of success is greater. And then there is the issue of integrity: I don't like paying tax dollars for nonsense like covering the judgments against Sheriff Smith who got caught telling deliberate lies. Langley will restore integrity, dignity and pride to our Sheriff's Department.
