In the 40th Senate district, which includes Putnam and eastern Dutchess, incumbent Sen. Terrence Murphy is waiting to determine whether he will be challenged by Democrat Andrew Falk, who lives in Patterson and has unsuccessfully run for Assembly twice, or Ali Boak, a former Pound Ridge councilwoman.

Falk has vowed to help New York's middle class, which he feels has fallen behind while Boak said she aims to clean up the culture of corruption in Albany.

Republicans in the 94th Assembly district, which covers parts of Putnam will pick between Kevin Byrne, a Mahopac resident, and Carmel Town Board member Suzi McDonough. The winner will face Democrat Brian Higbe.

Byrne, who was endorsed by the party, will appear on the Conservative, Independence and Reform lines, regardless of the outcome. Assemblyman Steve Katz decided not to run for re-election.
