POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Three Poughkeepsie residents were arrested for making more than $8,000 fraudulent credit card purchases with a blank credit card, the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office said.

Chavon Cotterell, 24, Aldasia Brown, 17, Tionne Strowman, 17, were arrested on Thursday and charged with possession of a forged instrument in the second degree, criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree and identity theft in the 2nd degree, all felonies.

The Dutchess County Sheriff's Office began investigating several cases of reported credit card fraud.

The three are accused of coding blank credit cards with stolen information, and then using those credit cards to make fraudulent purchases at various stores, police say.

The equipment used to code the credit cards, the blank credit cards themselves, and the stolen information were all acquired online, police say.

Police said the amount stolen is expected to increase as the investigation continues and more victims are discovered. More charges are possible at a later time.

The three were released on appearance tickets and are due back in Town of Poughkeepsie on April 25.
