NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- A bat Lou Gehrig used during the 1930 season sold for nearly $437,000 in 2015. Now you can own his former New Rochelle home for just a few thousand more.

The Gehrig's former house at 9 Meadow Lane is on the market for $449,000, according to The New York Times.

Gehrig bought the home in 1927 and refurbished the house so his parents could live there as well. Gehrig lived there until he married in 1933. The home was later foreclosed on in 1937, The Times said.

The Iron Horse's old home has been vacant for some time, but local historian Arthur Scinta hopes it can be restored to the condition the Gehrig family once had it in, The Times reported.

Gehrig played 17 seasons for the Yankees. He was a career .340 hitter with 493 home runs. He was awarded the American League MVP Award twice and is best known for playing in a then-record 2,130 consecutive games.

Gehrig died in 1941 from complications of  amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
