A fife and drum corps made up of high school students and a burning camp fire set the mood for the event. Students watched a surgical demonstration recreated with their assistant principal as the patient, they participated in drills, set up tents and signed the Declaration of Independence.

The fourth grade spent nearly the entire day outside, even eating stew for lunch in the grass field. Younger grades had the opportunity to walk around the perimeter for a tour of the reenactment.

Fourth grade teacher, Katie Odell, who was instrumental in bringing this program to Putnam Valley shared, "I truly feel grateful to teach in such a supportive and innovative community! I hope that because of our efforts, we have planted a seed that will continue to grow into a lifelong love of American history in our students!"
