Pleasantville Union Free School District Superintendent Mary Fox-Alter announced the death in an email sent out Thursday morning.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends and all members of the PHS school community," Fox-Alter said. "Please join me as a community as we create a compassionate circle of care during this difficult time."

The school will be open from noon to 2 p.m. Friday for students who need support.

A 6-foot-4 forward, Lupo earned all-section honors and was named as an 11th-team all-state selection in Class B. His season highlight video, posted on YouTube just last week, can be viewed here.

Chris Ward Basketball, a team Lupo played for, said it was heartbroken and devastated by his passing.

"In a short period of time with our CWB Family, he was loved by everyone," Chris Ward Basketball said in a statement. "He fit right in with our basketball family. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Lupo family, Coach Chris Welsh, and the entire Pleasantville Community. He will be missed dearly."

Scarsdale boys basketball coach Mike Blanco said this was a sad day for Section 1 athletics.

"Thoughts and prayers to the family, teammates, coaches and friends of Quentin Lupo," Blanco tweeted.

The Ossining Athletic Booster Club, Briarcliff Bears student section, Hendrick Hudson basketball team and Ardsley High School's PACK also tweeted their condolences to Pleasantville for Lupo's passing.
