Matthew Lawrence, a Poughquag resident, was previously principal of a high school in Monroe, and also served as an assistant principal in Beacon and Roy C. Ketcham High School. He said he has enjoyed his first month at Mahopac.

“I love the fact that the high school has comfortable, creative seating areas for students inside and outside,” Lawrence said. “I like the philosophy of schools treating students as citizens with options.”

Lawrence said Mahopac was a great district.

"I look forward to enhancing and adding to the wonderful culture and programs already in place," Lawrence said.

Tom Cozzocrea, the new middle school principal, comes to Mahopac after working in New York City.

“I grew up in Carmel,” said Cozzocrea, who lives in Pawling. “Though I received great training in the city, I am really excited to be in Mahopac, where I already feel at home in the school community. Everyone has been so welcoming.”

He said he is impressed with the level of teacher involvement with students as well as the collaboration among teachers.

“When all of us work together, it really helps make the best experience for students. I am really looking forward to working with the community, our students, and our staff," Cozzocrea said.
