New York Students Will Now Need Meningitis Shots

ALBANY, N.Y. -- Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed a bill Wednesday that requires students entering the sixth and 11th grades to be vaccinated against meningitis.

The state assembly and senate approved the legislation in June, based on advice from the Centers for Disease and Prevention (CDC) and several medical groups. Assembly member Aileen Gunther (D-Sullivan County), who sponsored the bill, noted that the measure is both good policy and good medicine, reported the New York Daily News.
