The school board voted to suspend Simpson at a meeting Monday. She will be paid during her suspension. Ronald Jackson, Dean of Students, was appointed acting executive principal.

No reason was given for Simpson's suspension. Simpson has been principal since 2013 and previously served as principal of Poughkeepsie Middle School.

Recently,  Poughkeepsie City School District Superintendent Nicole Williams filed a notice of claim against the school board for $1 million, citing "emotional distress."
