SOMERS, N.Y. -- Certain Somers High School students will be breaking out the corsages and cummerbunds at little early this year.

The school has been chosen to participate in National Prom Day, an event that not only celebrates the teen milestone but promotes the building of “a community that encourages confidence, empowerment, individuality, and inner beauty.”

It will be putting on a fashion show that will be streamed live on social media.

National Prom Day is technically Friday, March 31, but the Somers event had to scheduled for Thursday, March 30, due to a previous commitment.

The school's actual prom takes place in June.

Making a special appearance at the fashion show will be singer/songwriter Devin Dressman, a native New Yorker and a member of the Teen Choice-nominated boy band, New District.

Devin has worked closely with Randy Jackson, Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds, and some of the industry’s top talents.

He will be accompanied by guitarist Joshua Allen.

According to Sallyann Comparetto, a member of the Somers PTA, the event is sponsored by promgirl.com and promguy.com, online businesses that sell and rent prom gowns and tuxedos.

The former will be raffling off a prom dress and the latter, a tuxedo rental.

The money raised by the raffles, and through ticket sales, will go to the senior class fund.

Twenty-eight girls and 15 boys are expected to take part in the show.

National Prom Day supports Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) by making a donation for every promgirl.com and promguy.com sale made on March 31.

Prom, its website says, is a “special time in every teen’s life, a time that’s not only filled with fashion, friendship, and fun but where safety, peer pressure, and insecurity can sometimes go along with it.”

SADD’s core focus is traffic safety, but it has expanded its mission to address substance abuse, suicide, depression, bullying, violence, and body image issues.

Promgirl.com and promguy.com, as sponsors of the senior class’s annual fashion show, will be providing the gowns and tuxes for students to model, Comparetto said.

The Class of 2017’s original fundraiser was a lip-synching contest, but it was canceled due to lack of interest, she added.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door, or by visiting www.myschoolbucks.com .

The fashion show takes place from 7-9 p.m. in the high school auditorium, located at 120 Primrose St. (Route 139) in the Somers hamlet of Lincolndale.
