The 91-year-old spoke to students about his experiences during and after the war in the auditorium at the school.

His appearance was made possible through the generosity of the Yorktown Rotary, who brought him to Lakeland on Thursday, March 3.

A winner of the Purple Heart, Mann is the author of a memoir about WW II called "What I Fought For: An Aging Veteran's Love Letter to America."

He spent more than an hour talking about his life, answering questions from students and reading from his book.
