MAHOPAC, N.Y. - The Mahopac High wrestling team enjoyed a strong season last winter, and the Indians, under the tutelage of fifth-year coach Dennis DiSanto (in his 32nd season coaching overall) are hungry for more.

Mahopac, an established program that traditionally has solid wrestlers up and down the lineup, placed third in the section last season, had three sectional finalists, two champions and six place-winners overall, and went 15-7 in dual meets.

"We have a good mix of experienced wrestlers - three sectional place finishers returning, and four divisional champions returning," said DiSanto, who made the move to Mahopac's program after a long and successful tenure at Somers. "And we have some young kids who have been in the shadows, and they're pretty good, and they're ready to step up and be in the limelight this year.

"With our combination of experienced returnees and our younger kids stepping in, I think we can put together a pretty competitive team," DiSanto said.

Mahopac opens Wednesday, Dec. 2 against Sleepy Hollow in the Section 1 Duals.
