“Golfers from throughout the region have discovered what a jewel Putnam County Golf Course has become,” said County Executive MaryEllen Odell. “The Amateur Golf Championship is a wonderful opportunity for golfers of every skill level to challenge themselves and raise the bar to the next level.”
Anyone with a USGA Handicap is welcome to play. Golfers will be divided by age, gender and ability.
"The Putnam County Amateur Championship offers any golfer the opportunity to compete,” said PGA Professional Jim Woods. “Many golfers have never felt the pressure of actually competing in a tournament where every score counts. I have always been about growing the game through lessons, competition and fun events, and this is our way of showcasing Putnam County Golf Course while providing an opportunity to win a trophy, and become part of the Putnam history that we started last year."
Registration for the championship is $85 and includes greens fee, cart, trophies, prizes and food. Winners in each division will be awarded trophies and gift cards.
“We expect this event to continue to grow into one of the premier amateur golfing events in the region,” said Putnam County Golf Course General Manager Mike McCall. “Jim Woods, our PGA Professional and his staff run a top notch tournament but when the competitors walk off the 18th hole the fun begins in the tavern where players can enjoy great food and drink while waiting for the scores to be posted one by one.”
Putnam County Golf Course is located at 187 Hill St. in Mahopac. The entry deadline is Aug. 13 at 6 p.m.
