Mahopac Falls To New Rochelle In Sectional Football Playoffs

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- New Rochelle and Mamaroneck advanced to the semifinals of the Section 1 Class AA football playoffs Saturday with quarterfinal-round victories.

Sleepy Hollow, Rye, Somers and Yorktown advanced in the Class A playoffs, while Rye Neck advanced to the Class C championship game.

Mamaroneck defeated Scarsdale, 45-20, for its first win over the Raiders since 2008. Marquez Jackson-Allen rushed for three touchdowns to lead Mamaroneck to its first-ever victory in the state tournament.

New Rochelle beat Mahopac, 21-7, on Saturday. The Huguenots, ranked 10th in New York in last week’s MaxPreps’ rankings, improved to 8-0. For more pictures from the game, visit MaxPreps.com.

New Rochelle meets Arlington in the semifinals. Mamaroneck meets John Jay-East Fishkill in the other AA semi. The dates and sites for the semifinals have not been announced. John Jay-EF eliminated Horace Greeley, 48-28.

Rye beat Beacon, 31-20 and will meet Somers, a 45-0 winner over Walter Panas, in the Class A semfinals. Yorktown’s 28-21 win over Nyack earned the Huskers a semifinal date against Sleepy Hollow, a 27-14 winner over John Jay-Cross River. Ryan Baker passed for 155 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 68 yards and a score to lead Yorktown in its quarterfinal win.

In Class B, Nanuet beat Pleasantville, 10-0, and Our Lady of Lourdes eliminated Ardsley, 19-0. Lourdes and Nanuet meet for the Class B title Saturday at Mahopac High School at 3:30 p.m.

In Class C, Woodlands beat top-seeded Bronxville, 25-22. Rye Neck advanced with a 15-7 win over Dobbs Ferry. Rye Neck meets Woodlands for the Class C title Saturday at Mahopac High School at noon. Dom Brescia rushed for 134 yards and  touchdown to lead Rye Neck in its semifinal win. Brescia has 14 touchdowns on the season. Bronxville had beaten Woodlands, 27-13, on Oct. 11, but the Falcons bounced back on Saturday.

In another game of note on Saturday, undefeated Archbishop Stepinac crushed Chaminade, 40-13. Tyquell Fields threw for 140 yards and two touchdowns while the Crusaders amassed 274 yards rushing with a balanced attack. Gavin Heslop, Tyquan Ennis and Daniel Negron rushed for touchdowns for Stepinac. The Crusaders came into the game ranked No. 2 in the state by MaxPreps.
