A stretch of Route 22 in Putnam County has reopened after an early afternoon crash Tuesday in which one person was killed and two seriously injured during a head-on car crash.

The 1:30 p.m. crash occurred when a northbound vehicle and a southbound vehicle collided just north of the Milltown Road intersection in Brewster, said Capt. William McNamara.

The male driver of the northbound vehicle was killed in the crash. The female driver and the male passenger of the southbound car were transported by ambulances to Danbury Hospital with unknown injuries, said McNamara.

The identities of the crash victims were not immediately available.

Route 22 is still closed from Milltown Road to Lakeview Plaza until about 5 p.m. Tuesday, as the Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the New York State Police, investigate the crash.
