As the founder of the YSBA (2014) and a resident of Yorktown for nearly 30 years, who has been actively engaged in many community organizations and several businesses I remain optimistic and enthusiastic about the many opportunities I see on the horizon and in the future of our town, Yorktown. We are fortunate to have so many great attributes in our community that make it a place where many want to live, work and play. Excellent schools, fantastic parks and recreation (state, county, town), nature preserves, wildlife, trails, athletic leagues, numerous community service organizations, large tracks of open space, easy access to transportation, many historic landmarks and a history dating back to the revolution.

The YSBA in its meetings and discussions with members, elected officials and residents over the past several years has identified 4 areas which it believes the town should pay attention to and take action on, in order improve our economy and our town and make it an even better place to live, work and play:

(1) Significantly increase the commercial tax base within the 5 business hamlets and make the town more business friendly (2) Improve and increase cultural activities (3) Embrace tourism as an economic engine and seek a hotel/conference center (4) Proactively market the town and seek-solicit-encourage specific businesses/developments (arts, antiques, crafts, music, historic tours, renewable energy, organic produce, hotel/conference center, green technologies, etc.).

On April 12, the YSBA will be hosting a Small Business Symposium (the first in a series of meetings) at the Yorktown Stage between 8am and 11am. Admission is free (RSVP required Yorktownsba@optonline.net) and a continental breakfast will be served. This event will educate, inform and allow you to network with business advocates, local elected officials, business owners and consumers. Organizations and speakers presenting at the event include Westchester County Association, SCORE of Westchester, Supervisor Michael Grace, County Legislator Chair Michael Kaplowitz, County Legislator John Testa. All are welcome. PCSB, an early supporter of the YSBA is sponsoring the event. For more information contact Bob Giordano 914-874-4347
