Slouka will read from the memoir – published last month by W.W. Norton & Company – from 3-5 p.m., according to a statement from the author’s publicist.

Released in hardcover, “Nobody’s Son” focuses on Slouka’s “struggle to break through to some saving truth,” while trying to gain a greater understanding of his parents – particularly his mother, a woman described as “abused and abusive, tormented and enduring; a woman capable of extraordinary joy whose behavior over time became punctuated by increasingly violent outbursts. ...”

Slouka, who has authored several books, including 2013’s “Brewster” and 2008’s “The Visible World,” lives in Brewster with his family, according to his website.

In addition to winning several awards for his writing, he has worked as a contributing editor at Harpers magazine and taught literature and writing at Harvard University, Columbia University and The University of Chicago, according to his website.

The free event is to be held at the Studio Around the Corner, 67 Main St., Brewster.
