The Garden Around the Corner, which will aim to provide the community with fresh produce, will be opening directly behind the Studio Around the Corner at 67 Main St., according to organizers, who said the Arts Coalition will be working alongside a host of local community groups to bring the garden to fruition.

Among the groups participating in the program will be students from the Longview School who will partake in a program called “Seeds to Salad,” according to organizers.

As part of the program, the students will plant, care for and harvest the ingredients needed for a salad party in June, organizers said, adding that the rest of the vegetable garden will contain plants that will help support families being helped by the Putnam Community Action Program.

“We will begin with the students from our weekly Community Connection ESL program to get the ball rolling on the garden and with the help of Cornell Co-op … we hope to encourage families in the area to grow their own gardens,” said Judy Marano, one of the garden project's planners.

According to Marano, the Studio Around the Corner plans to construct a patio at the center of the garden with pavers engraved with the names of financial supporters.

“This is a wonderful way to show your support and memorialize your family or business in Brewster,” she said in a statement.

Pavers will be sold for $100 and can be purchased through the Cultural Arts Coalition’s website.

Marano can be reached at 845-363-8330 or by email at TOSCAC2010@gmail.com.
