Retired LAPD Cop Who Fatally Shot 20-Year-Old In Dutchess County Gets Prison Time
A retired Los Angeles police officer convicted of fatally shooting a 20-year-old man in Dutchess County will spend decades in prison, prosecutors said.
Pleasant Valley resident Thomas Case, age 54, was sentenced to 20 years in prison and five years of post-release supervision on Tuesday, Sept. 8, for first-degree manslaughter, a violent felony, according to the Dutchess County District Attorney's Office.
The sentence stems from the death of Anthony Cuozzo, age 20, who was shot multiple times in Pleasant Valley on Oct. 5, 2024.

A Capital Region trio was arrested in a stolen car with cocaine and heroin, police said Tuesday, Sept. 8.
Rick C. Sweet, 38; Leah H. Detroye, 29; and Jadyn S. Flexer, 24, were pulled over around 3 a.m. Monday, Aug. 31 in Clifton Park, the Saratoga County Sheriff’s office said.
Cops spotted the three suspects in a car that had been reported stolen from Ballston Spa earlier that morning, authorities said. They stopped the car on Vischer Ferry Road in Clifton Park and found more than 500 milligrams of cocaine and a small amount of heroin, according to police.

A Long Island driver was killed in a one-car crash early Tuesday, Sept. 8, police said.
Matthew Schneider, 26, of Selden, was driving a 2018 Chevrolet Express eastbound on Express Drive South near Maple Avenue in Holbrook around 3:10 a.m., the Suffolk County Police Department said.
Schneider’s vehicle left the road, struck a tree, and overturned, investigators said. However, the wreck wasn’t reported until a passing motorist called 911 around 5:30 a.m., police said.
