Mass-Native Runner Qualifies For Olympic Trials After Easily Winning His First-Ever Marathon
A Connecticut native stunned the field in his first-ever marathon, smashing a long-standing course record and securing a spot in the 2028 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials.
Ryan Smith, from Westport, crossed the finish line first at the Vermont City Marathon in Burlington on May 24, posting a time of 2 hours, 15 minutes, and 52 seconds. His performance broke the 24-year-old course record by 1 minute and 10 seconds.
He led the field of 1,834 runners for the entire 26.2 miles and earned $2,400 for the win.

A counterfeit pill ring flooding the streets with fake Oxy, Xanax, and Adderall across the country landed four Massachusetts men in federal prison after causing more than a dozen overdose deaths, prosecutors in Virginia said.

Investigators said Daniel John Blaney, 28, Kenneth Emmanuel Lora, 27, David Robert Kable Jr., 27, and Javier Alexander Bermudez, 31, all from Lynn, Massachusetts, manufactured counterfeit pills using industrial pill presses before shipping them across the United States.

Western Mass Motorcyclist Killed After Violent I-91 CT Crash Throws Him Into Opposite Lanes
A Massachusetts man was killed after being ejected from his motorcycle during a crash with a pickup truck on I-91 in Connecticut on Memorial Day, police said.
Juan Miguel Martinez, 26, of North Hampton, Massachusetts, was killed following the 8:30 p.m. crash south of Exit 39 north in Windsor, Connecticut State Police said.
According to investigators, Martinez's 2010 Ducati Streetfighter rear-ended a 2019 Toyota Tacoma, sending the motorcycle into a jersey barrier. The impact launched him from the bike, and he landed in the southbound lanes.
