Open Letter to Sen. Sue Serino from a New York Parent:

I am writing in response to your email suggesting that we all complete the NY SED survey. I am distressed!

I attempted to complete the survey to explain what it is about the the Common Core that is troubling to me. The survey is purposefully long, complicated, and obtuse. In order to make a criticism, you have to have a recommendation about how to improve it. Why would NYS concoct such a cumbersome tool? – To discourage participation by regular New Yorkers.

How could you, my representative, condone, and support this survey? It should have been presented as the fraud it is. You are supposed to be my voice in Albany, yet you are not fulfilling your campaign promise yet again. You are supporting the continuation of the Common Core Standards and Tests which are unconstitutional, and continue to harm children every day.

The survey prepared by NYSAPE, an organization that truly wants information from New Yorkers, is short, simple, direct, and seeks information. I would have hoped you would have denounced the sham NY SED survey, pointing out the hypocrisy of the bureaucrats who put it forward as a way to have input.

Again I ask you: Where is the Senate companion bill calling for the repeal of the CCSI? Where is your voice raised in protest of the “listening tour” of members of the Governor’s Task Force, who already indicated they will be presenting opinions about how the Common Core should be re-branded and modified? Why are you again complaining about the Common Core, yet you have not done the work to have it repealed?

I am so disappointed in you, Senator. I worked hard to inform people in Northern Westchester/Putnam/Dutchess of your candidacy and urged them to vote for you. We are all disappointed in your lack of conviction and action on this matter that led to your election in the first place.

I look forward to vetting the next candidate for New York Senate.
