NJ Town's Republican Town Council Candidate Who Lost By 3 Votes Calls For Recount
A Republican candidate running for the Clinton Common Council is calling for a recount after losing to the Democratic incumbent by just three votes in this year's election. Nicholas Bruno ran against incumbents Rielly Karsh and Megan Johnson, for two open seats to serve a three-year term on Nov. 3. According to election results posted Friday, Bruno received 909 votes while Johnson won with 912. And now he wants a recount. "I have filed for a recount because of the narrow margins separating all 3 candidates and anticipate an order to recount in the next coming days," Bruno said in a Fa…

Covid-
19: Mitch McConnell Poses Greatest Obstacle In 'Getting Crisis Under Control'
With coronavirus cases rising dramatically nationwide, U.S. Sen. Cory Booker said the time is now "to get this crisis under control." "We cannot wait. We must do something now," Booker said during a daily COVID-19 briefing in Trenton on Monday. "It deserves a big response." The U.S. Senate and House of Representatives remain at odds over what should b included in the next stimulus relief bill, recent news reports say. Booker said he will call on Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, a Kentucky Republican, to take major action before President-elect Joe Biden assumes office in Janua…

These NJ Counties Voted For President Trump, Four Flipped From Red To Blue
Unsurprisingly, New Jersey remains blue. Democrat Joe Biden easily won the Garden State in the presidential election with nearly 61% of votes counted. Roughly 37.9% of New Jerseyans voted in for President Donald Trump. Where did those votes come from, and which counties shifted from red to blue since the 2016 Election? This year, voters in five NJ counties supported Trump (the first number is the percentage of county voters in favor, the second is the estimated percentage of votes counted so far): Cape May: 56.1%, 88% Ocean: 61.7%, 86% of votes reported Salem: 53.7%, 77% Suss…

If Democrats Wrest Control Of US Senate, NJ's Menendez Lands Key Leadership Post
When the dust settles, and the fate of the U.S. Senate majority is decided, New Jersey's senior senator could land one of the top leadership posts. But it's likely to take days -- or even weeks -- to know the outcome as Senate races in Georgia and North Carolina remained too close to call on Wednesday. Bob Menendez, a U.S. senator since 2006, is widely considered the leading contender to become chairman of the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee. But that's only if Democrats retake a majority of seats in the Senate -- which they lost control of six years ago. According to Politico and ot…

Biden Takes NJ, Booker Wins 2nd Full Senate Term
New Jersey will remain a blue state: Joe Biden claimed the Garden State's 14 electoral votes in his bid for the White House, according to the Associated Press. Meanwhile, U.S. Sen. Cory Booker won another six-year term, the AP says. New Jersey hasn't elected a GOP candidate for U.S. Senate in 48 years, and hasn't voted for a Republican president in 32 years. The AP called Biden's New Jersey win as polls closed around 8 p.m.

Poll: Biden 'All But Certain To Beat' Trump In NJ, Enhancing Amy Kennedy's Congressional Hopes
A national tracking poll finds that former Vice President Joe Biden is "all but certain" to win New Jersey in next Tuesday's election over President Donald J. Trump. The 50-state poll conducted by The Economist gives Biden a roughly 60 to 40 percent margin of victory in New Jersey in the final days until Election Day. That's good news for another Democrat in the state's most hotly contested congressional race: Amy Kennedy of Atlantic County is polling ahead of U.S. Rep. Jeff Van Drew of Cape May County, a vocal supporter of President Trump. Inside Elections currently predicts New Jersey'…

Mahwah Mayor Cancels 9/11 Ceremony, Ignites (Another) Firestorm
Mahwah Mayor John Roth announced Monday that he’d cancelled the township’s annual 9/11 ceremony because of the coronavirus pandemic, igniting yet another firestorm. “Each of us can and should remember and honor, in our own way, those who lost their lives on 9/11 in 2001,” Roth suggested. “Presently we have had over 280 cases of Covid19 in the [t]ownship since tracking began last April,” the mayor wrote in an email to township council members that he posted to Facebook. “This is a serious, highly infectious virus that spreads easily and quickly among all age groups," he added. "As suc…

NJ Mayor Who Drunkenly Passed Out Pantless In Township Worker’s Bed In Hot Water Again
Fallout for his behavior continued Thursday when the Mahwah Township Council unanimously approved a no-confidence vote against Mayor John Roth. Roth made international headlines earlier this year when he passed out drunk and pantless in a township employee’s bed during a party. The council recommended after that incident that the he undergo an alcohol assessment and receive counseling on township policies and anti-discrimination laws. What prompted their response this time was Roth's behavior while presiding at a public meeting late last month. Roth promised during the meeting that c…

President Postpones Trump National Golf Trip To Central Jersey
President Donald Trump canceled his weekend trip to his private golf resort in Somerset County. Despite the coronavirus and statewide George Floyd protests against police brutality, the Federal Aviation Administration had issued a no-fly zone for Bedminster and Morristown for "VIP movement" this weekend, raising the possibility of a presidential visit to Trump National Golf Club. Instead, President Trump will fly to Maine on Friday, and return to the golf club in Bedminster next Friday, June 13, for a planned re-election campaign fundraiser. Trump is now expected to visit a Maine manufactu…

Freeholder Calls Paterson Mayor ‘Punk,’ ‘Slimy Coward’ After National TV Interview
Passaic County Freeholder Theodore Best called Paterson Mayor Andre Sayegh a “slimy coward” and “a punk” in a Facebook post Thursday night following a nationally televised interview the mayor gave MSNBC about the city’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic. Although initial projections were that 8,000 Paterson residents would contract COVID-19 by April 15, the actual number on that date over a month ago was about 2,500, Sayegh said, praising the work of city health officials and contact tracers. “It could have been far worse,” Sayegh said during an MSNBC interview segment with Chris Hayes …

'House Arrest': NJ Libertarians Demand 'Freedom Of Movement, Assembly, Testing' Amid
Covid-
19
New Jersey’s Libertarian Party on Thursday accused the state and federal governments of illegally closing businesses and placing citizens under house arrest, insisting that there should be “freedom of movement, freedom of assembly and free testing,” without restrictions, for the coronavirus. “During this time of necessary ‘social distancing,’ the nanny state known as the United States federal and state governments are expanding their control by ordering its citizens to remain in their homes,” wrote Michael Guadagnino, the NJLP’s vice president of marketing. “Over the past month we have seen…

Council: Surprise Late-Night Pow Wow No Cause For Admonishing Mayor, Clerk
The surprise after-hours discovery by Elmwood Park police of the town’s then-acting mayor and borough clerk behind locked doors in the municipal building was no reason for admonishment, the Borough Council decided Thursday night. The decision rejected a recommendation by legal counsel to admonish Councilman Daniel Golabek and Borough Clerk Erin Delaney for the Dec. 13, 2019 incident at Borough Hall. Eyebrows were raised in Elmwood Park not only over potential appearances but also because Golabek, while acting mayor, had participated in discussions about Delaney’s permanent appointment to th…
