Meghan Taylor, the Putnam County EDC's president, noted that the work will result in the creation of seven new classrooms. She added that they will be for 60 additional special needs and preschool children.
The expansion, planned to start this fall and finish by fall of 2016, will create 35 jobs, according to Taylor. She said that the expansion's cost will be over $4 million.
Green Chimneys is the winner of the EDC's 2014 Community Impact Award, which Taylor said is for a business or organization with a "sustained commitment to the growth and development of its employees, and the communities in which it does business.”
Angelo Matra, Green Chimneys' associate executive director, accepted the award on its organization's behalf.
The award was presented at the EDC's Recognition Breakfast, which was held Putnam County Golf Course in Mahopac.
Green Chimneys is in Patterson, with a portion of its site in Southeast, according to Matra, who explained that it has a Brewster mailing address.
Green Chimneys was one of two award winners at the EDC breakfast, which also included a speech from former Gov. George Pataki.
