Winkler, actor, producer, author and literacy advocate, turns 70 on Friday.

He was born in New York City on Oct. 30, 1945, and graduated from Yale School of Drama. He's currently starring in Adult Swim's "Children's Hospital" and USA Network's "Royal Pains."

Best known for his role as Fonzie on the 1970s sitcom "Happy Days," Winkler went on to earn acclaim for a variety of acting roles on stage, screen and television.

Perhaps not as well known is Winkler's work in children's literacy. Though he suffered with dyslexia as a child, he's gone on to collaborate on a series of children's books about Hank Zipzer, who is dyslexic.

He also tours schools annually to read excerpts from his Hank Zipzer books. In addition to awards for his acting, Winkler has won recognition as a literacy hero.
