Person Dies After Jumping From Bear Mountain Bridge

State Police said late Thursday morning that the person who jumped from the Bear Mountain Bridge early Thursday died as a result of injuries suffered in the jump.

State police, who have not released the person's name or gender, said they are working to notify the next of kin, said Trooper Stephen Nevel.

The incident took place around 8:35 a.m. when the person jumped from the bridge near Stony Point, state police said.

Emergency responders from Rockland, Westchester and Orange counties rushed to the scene.

Troopers are currently reviewing video surveillance tapes to pinpoint the circumstances and to confirm an identity, state police said
