A witness driving on I-84 reportedly saw a car-which authorities later determined to be the woman’s stopped on the right shoulder of the westbound span of the bridge. The witness said he saw the woman walk across the span from the right shoulder to the left side of the roadway and reach for the railing, but did not see her jump over, the sheriff's office said.

Responding sheriff’s deputies detected no signs of life in the woman, and the coroner pronounced her dead at the scene. Investigators determined that the bridge stands about 90 feet high above the place where the victim’s body was found, police said.

On a seat in the car they found the woman’s driver’s license and a note bearing the names and telephone numbers of her children. The woman's identity is being withheld until they are notified, police said.
