A Long Island jail guard who forced an inmate to perform oral sex on him was sentenced Tuesday, Aug. 25, authorities said.
Jason Middleton, 37, of Central Islip, got 18 months in prison for third-degree criminal sex act, the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office said. The sentence was part of a plea deal Middleton took back in June.

A homeless Long Island man attacked a laundromat employee and snatched the victim’s phone early Tuesday, Aug. 25, police said.
Kevin Jemerson, 48, walked into Laundry Palace in West Hempstead around 1 a.m., the Nassau County Police Department said.
Jemerson approached a 41-year-old man working at the business and struck him with his hands, police said. The man retreated to an “employee-only” area of the laundromat to call 911, but Jemerson followed, cops said.

A 19-year-old Long Island lacrosse player is being remembered for his outgoing personality, positive spirit, and love of cars after his death in a head-on crash in Ulster County.
Smithtown resident Peter B. Bonenfant, 19, died in a two-vehicle crash on Route 28 in the Town of Olive in Ulster County on Sunday morning, Aug. 23, as Daily Voice previously reported.
The crash happened around 6:47 a.m., when a 2024 Chevrolet driven west by Bonenfant crossed into the eastbound lane for an unknown reason and struck a 2021 Mercedes-Benz head-on, according to New York State Police.
