A 26-year-old woman who had been wanted for more than a year after failing to appear in court on charges involving the alleged assault of a young child was arrested in New York City and brought back to Sullivan County, police said.
Ulster County resident Shamara Sterling, of Greenfield Park, was taken into custody on Monday, Oct. 19, in Brooklyn, the Village of Liberty Police Department announced on Wednesday, Oct. 21.

A Fall River woman made millions arranging fake marriages for immigrants seeking legal status, federal prosecutors allege.
Jennifer Gonzalez, 43, ran the operation for more than a decade, charging $38,000 to $40,000 per marriage, the US Attorney for the District of Massachusetts announced Wednesday. Investigators say she earned more than $100,000 a year during the 10-year scheme.
Five other people were also arrested and charged with taking part in the scam marriage scheme.

Krisiann Reyes Rivera was a passenger in a 2015 Buick involved in a collision with a 2024 Acura towing a U-Haul trailer on Route 17 south near Westfield Garden State Plaza around 5:09 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said. Following the initial crash, Rivera got out of the Buick, approached the Acura and struck one of its windows, Musella said.
