Fernando Cardenas has been charged with course of sexual conduct against a child in the second degree (a felony) and endangering the welfare of a child (a misdemeanor).
The investigation was conducted by both Bureau of Criminal Investigation and uniform members and led to the Putnam County Court issuing an arrest warrant ordering Cardenas' arrest. The investigation revealed that between 2008 and 2009, Cardenas had sexual contact with a juvenile under the age of 12, state police said.
Cardenas was arraigned in the Putnam County Court and remanded to the Putnam County Jail in lieu of $100,000 cash bail or $200,000 bond. Cardenas is scheduled to reappear in Putnam County Court on Oct. 4.
