Dwayne L. Cantelmo, 44, was riding a 1995 Harley-Davidson motorcycle northeast on Route 6 at about 5:20 p.m. when he allegedly ran a red light at the intersection with Route 52, in front of the Reed Memorial Library, said Capt. William McNamara.
His motorcycle collided with a 2006 Acura sedan driven by Michael A. Nieves, 33, of Katonah, which was headed south on Route 52, and was turning left to go east on Route 6 with the green light, he said.
The motorcycle broadsided the car in the intersection and the impact ejected Cantelmo from the cycle.
Cantelmo was transported by the Carmel Volunteer Ambulance to the Danbury Hospital in Connecticut, where he was admitted with apparent trauma injuries to his head and right leg. There was no update available on the extent his injuries as of late Monday. Nieves was not injured in the collision, McNamara said.
Carmel volunteer firefighters and County Fire Police assisted in detouring traffic around the area. The Putnam County Bureau of Emergency Services supplied generators and lights to illuminate the scene for investigators.
The intersection was closed to traffic for about five hours as deputies and investigators reconstructed the crash and cleared the scene.
No tickets were issued at the scene and the crash remains under investigation, McNamara said.
