Members of the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigations announced the arrest of 24-year-old Verplanck resident Stephen Candelaria, who has been charged with falsely reporting an incident, a misdemeanor.

Police said that shortly before 6:30 p.m. on July 17, Candelaria reported to state police that his 2009 Mazda RX8 was stolen from his home on 7th Street in Verplanck. The investigation into the alleged stolen car found that the allegation made by Candelaria was false, and he was subsequently arrested.

Candelaria was arrested and processed without further incident. He was released on his own recognizance and is due in the Town of Cortlandt Court on Aug. 9 to answer the charge.
