Police: Woman Faces Two Felony Charges After Kicking In Door In Town Of Poughkeepsie Burglary

A woman allegedly beat a bedroom door with a frying pan after kicking in the front door of a home faces charges of burglary and assault.

Monifah Carter, 22, of the Town of Poughkeepsie, was arrested on Sunday, Oct. 7 after officers responded to an apartment at 134 Innis Ave., in the Town of Poughkeepsie for a person damaging property inside the apartment, said Capt. Kevin Faber.

When officers arrived, they found Carter inside damaging a bedroom door with a frying pan. An investigation found that she had been involved in an earlier domestic violence at the same location where she had gained access to the residence by kicking in the front door, Faber said.

Police arrested Carter and charged her with felony burglary and felony criminal mischief. She was arraigned in Town of Poughkeepsie Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail on $15,000 cash or $30,000 bond. 

While being transported to the fail, Carter also intentionally damaged an interior mounted patrol car camera system by kicking it, Faber said. 

She was additionally charged with another count of felony criminal mischief.
