The charge stemmed from a complaint made by a woman alleging that her ex-husband, identified as Steven Wechter, had sent her an email and had attempted to place calls to her cellphone on two occasions in violation of a Putnam County Family Court-issued order of protection, police report.

A deputy launched an investigation into the incidents on June 16, according to officials.

Later that day, the deputy located Wechter at the Home Depot store at 80 Independent Way in Southeast, police report.

The deputy arrested the suspect, charging him with second-degree criminal contempt, a misdemeanor, according to officials.

The defendant was processed at the Putnam County Correctional Facility and held pending arraignment, police report.

If found guilty of the misdemeanor charge, the defendant could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.
