The dog, a 16-pound male poodle mix, about 5 or 6 years old, was found in such bad shape it originally was thought he had been struck by a vehicle, officials report.

The dog was taken to Roosevelt Vet, where it was discovered he was severely neglected with a very large intra-abdominal tumor and a bleeding tumor on his head filled with maggots.

His nails had curled into his feet pads, and he was severely matted, as well, officials said.

The New York State Humane Association has offered a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible, according to officials.

The dog is being called “Douglas.”

Anyone with information on the case can contact the SPCA at 845-520-6915.
