Alexander P. King, 24, and 47-year-old Fred Vanzillotta of Salt Point were both traveling east on the highway shortly after 9 p.m. Monday when the collision occurred, police said.

Police are accusing King of driving aggressively and tailgating Vanzillotta before rear-ending the older man’s car.

Troopers were monitoring traffic on I-84, just west of I-684, when they got the report of a hit-and-run.

Police said they spotted a Honda matching the description of the fleeing vehicle go by at more than 85 mph.

King was pulled over, found to be drunk, and subsequently charged with driving while intoxicated, police said.

King is scheduled to appear in the Town of Southeast Court on Thursday, Feb. 9.
