Cameron David King, 18, of Bridgeport, was arrested around 3 a.m. Tuesday after officers from the Newtown Police Department were dispatched to the area of South Main Street at Bears Hill Road to search for a stolen motor vehicle, Newtown Police said.
It was reported that a blue Toyota Highlander was stolen out of Greenwich earlier in the evening and had just been in a pursuit with Bridgeport Police and was last seen traveling north on Route 25.
While checking the area, Newtown officers spotted the Highlander heading northbound on South Main Street near Pecks Lane and began to follow the stolen vehicle.
The vehicle turned right on to Wasserman Way when the officers activated their overhead emergency lights and siren. The Highlander took off at a high rate of speed, heading westbound. In the area of 100 Wasserman Way, just prior to Exit 11, the Highlander went off the roadway on the right and hit the guardrail and came to a stop, the release said.
King then jumped out of the vehicle and started running westbound on Wasserman Way before he was caught by police after a short foot chase.
He was charged with larceny, engaging police in a pursuit, reckless endangerment, traveling too fast for condition, reckless driving, restricted turn, failure to maintain lane and resisting police.
King was held on a $50,000 bond and will appear in court Tuesday.
