A suspect implicated in the theft of cigarettes from area gas stations injured an attendant and Good Samaritan who chased him down following an alleged robbery over the weekend until police could intervene in Northern Westchester.

Officers from the Yorktown Police Department were dispatched to the Shell station on Commerce Street at approximately 8:45 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22, where there was a report of a robbery. While en route to investigate, the officers were advised that a suspect had fled on foot and was running on Kear Street.

Upon arrival at Kear Street, the officers found the suspect - eventually identified as 29-year-old Wurtsboro resident Christopher Thomas Trowbridge - still attempting to flee from the attendant and a Good Samaritan who suffered minor injuries in the chase. Trowbridge was subsequently arrested by the responding officers.

Police said that the investigation determined that Trowbridge forcibly stole the cigarettes from the attendant at the gas station, and during the immediate fight and flight from the Shell station, another shopper was allegedly injured.

Further investigation at Yorktown Police Headquarters found that Trowbridge allegedly previously stole a carton of cigarettes on Sept. 13 from the Gulf Station on Commerce Street and again from the Sunoco on Sept. 21 on Crompond Road.

Trowbridge was charged with second-degree robbery, a felony, and two misdemeanor counts of petit larceny.

Following his arraignment, Trowbridge was remanded to the Westchester County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond. He is due back in Yorktown Justice Court on Tuesday, Sept. 25 to answer the charges.
