Guns, the minimum wage, health care and more were debated by incumbent Democratic U.S. Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney and Republican challenger Phil Oliva, according to the Poughkeepsie Journal.

The 18th congressional district candidates are split over how each area should be fixed, only agreeing all were in need of repair, including the approach to the area's heroin epidemic, according to the Poughkeepsie Journal.

Maloney is in favor of upping the minimum wage to $15 an hour, while Olivia said he'd move toward indexing for inflation, according to the Poughkeepsie Journal.

Olivia was against stricter gun regulations, while Maloney cited the urgency for universal background checks, according to the Poughkeepsie Journal.
