On Tuesday, singer Kid Rock said his plan to run for Michigan Senator on the Republican ticket was all a publicity stunt. Pataki had touted his candidacy on Twitter and in news interviews.

"I'm not running for Senate," Kid Rock said on the Howard Stern Show. "Are you kidding me? Who couldn't figure that out? I'm releasing a new album. I'm going on tour, too."

As Kid Rock was considering his candidacy, Pataki tweeted,"Kid Rock is exactly the kind of candidate the GOP needs right now."

Pataki said he was a fan of his music and praised Rock for being supportive of veterans.

"I don't think the Republican Party should limit its candidates to the usual path -- lawyers, businesspeople, and doctors," Pataki told syracuse.com. "You listen to 'Born Free' and it's a really a creed in favor of limited government and I like that.

Pataki previously served as Mayor of Peekskill and three terms as Governor of New York. He unsuccessfully sought the Republican nomination for president last year.
