High schools were ranked on a set of six weighted criteria that included:
- Academics
- Health and safety
- Student culture and diversity
- Survey responses
- Teachers grade
- Resources and facilities
- Sports and fitness
Haldane excelled in nearly every category, earning an A- rating in every category but one. The school of 303 students only lagged in culture and diversity with a grade of C.
In addition, Haldane boasted a 95 percent graduation rate, well above the national average of 81 percent.
Blind Brook also ranked above the national averages in SAT scores (1860).
Stuyvesant High School in Manhattan took the top overall spot for New York State.
